Sunset Youth Services is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to making positive transformation in the lives of high-risk youth. We accomplish this at our Drop-in Youth Center, where we build relationships with youth, provide a safe place in which youth may learn and grow, and participate in projects that care for underserved and under-resourced populations, particularly low-income minority or immigrant individuals.

Description:
Sunset Youth Services serves over 500 individuals annually, 400 of whom are under age 18. The target population is middle and high school age kids who live, work, attend school or otherwise identify with the Sunset District. Our organization and all its programs focus on youth development, including juvenile case management, literacy, outreach and recreation. Kids visit the Youth Center for recreation, education, homework assistance, afterschool snacks and mentoring.

History:
The stretch of Judah Street from 43rd Avenue to Ocean Beach is the highest crime area in the Sunset District with a long history of youth problems. Sunset Youth Services was formed over 12 years ago as a Youth Drop-in Center aimed at after-school activities, education, youth development and advocacy. Five members of the staff and many of our current volunteers are former program participants or service recipients. They are positive role models because they have turned away from destructive behavior and matured into neighborhood leaders and effective mentors. We've served hundred of families at our Food Pantry, helped countless kids stay in school, graduate or obtain their GED and hosted 10 Sunset Community Festivals.
