To produce work by Robert Moses and others that addresses what is specific and unique in human nature and expresses human experience. Mr. Moses choreographs with the voices of his heritage to uncover and use a historically informed African American perspective in dances for the 21st Century.

Description:
Robert Moses' Kin (RMK) has an annual budget under $300,000. The company consists of 10 dancers. We have two part-time staff members and a working board of seven. Mr. Moses is a faculty member at Stanford University and is regularly invited to teach at other institutions and festivals across the country. We have a relationship with a booking agent and have multiple touring engagements throughout the year. Our annual home season is usually scheduled in February.

History:
Since founding the company in 1995, Robert Moses has worked in collaboration with dancers, musicians, composers, sculptors, authors, poets and designers to realize the concept of dance as a unifying form of art, an art form which speaks broadly from a specific place. The name for the company represents the sameness, the inherent familial link among people. Yet, the distinction of each dancer is paramount to the work, which always explores how we are at once the same as people, yet different as individuals. The company has presented an annual season in San Francisco since 1995, premiering several new works every year with a current repertory of over 60 works that range from neo-classical ballet to post-modern movement theater. The company has commissioned work from choreographers Julie Adam, Alonzo King, Sara Shelton Mann, Margaret Jenkins, KT Nelson and Robert Henry Johnson and Robert Moses has created commissioned work for the Oakland Ballet and Lawrence Pech Dance Company. Robert Moses' Kin has toured throughout California and nationally, and has performed at major festivals including Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, Colorado Dance Festival and Maine Dance Festival. The company was a 1998/99 Duke/Wattis Company-in-Residence at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and received Isadora Duncan Dance Awards for Best Ensemble Performance (1998) and Best Performance for their entire season (2001).
