Larkin Street Youth Services is a nationally recognized leader in providing innovative and effective programs for homeless and runaway youth in San Francisco. Our mission is to provide a continuum of services that inspires youth to move beyond the streets. We will nurture potential, promote dignity and support bold steps by all.

Description:
Larkin Street's comprehensive continuum of services has been designed to address the immediate, emergency needs of these youth while encouraging them to participate in services that offer the resources and skills needed to move beyond the streets. Larkin Street's approach is working: in the past year, over 80% of the youth enrolled in comprehensive services permanently exited street life.

History:
Larkin Street Youth Services was founded in 1984 as a neighborhood effort to divert homeless and runaway youth from prostitution, drug dealing and theft in the Tenderloin/Polk Gulch area of San Francisco. Larkin Street began as a drop-in center providing food, clothing and a safe haven for 70 kids in its first year. Today, Larkin Street works with thousands of young people between the ages of 12-24 each year through a comprehensive continuum of services that includes 23 programs operating out of 12 sites across San Francisco.
