City of Dreams is a non profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk youth build brighter futures through mentorship and youth development. We provide caring, compassionate mentors in one to one relationships and group events designed to promote a child's self esteem, helping them to build a brighter future for themselves.
Description:
At City of Dreams, we have a saying: Love without Limits. We believe that love comes first and love comes last. We also realize that love by itself is not enough, so we offer the support and education necessary to help shift perspective. Mentorship Program: City of Dreams provides a two year mentorship program to our city's most challenged youth. At the end of the two year program, the children enter a new phase of mentorship with continued support. The graduates in our program are encouraged to be the leaders of the next generation, acting as Jr. Mentors on our many events. We focus on children between the ages of ten to fourteen, because we feel at age ten they can comprehend the power of choice and at age fourteen they are open to new concepts. We pair youth with caring mentors to help reinforce the concepts presented in our experiential learning events, in addition to providing a positive, stable, supportive role model outside of their core family.
Experiential Learning: Through our program, we encourage youth to think critically, by exposing them to a variety of experiences, exercises and events designed to teach them that "anything is possible" in life. Our experiential learning events present simple lessons to be applied by youth as tools for success today and throughout their adult lives. Ultimately, the youth empower themselves through the opportunities provided in each event and experience.
Community Development: We work to together with the community to make a difference and we encourage youth to make a difference, both today and in the future. We expose our children to various cultural events and community service projects throughout the year. We believe that encouraging youth to give back to their community promotes self esteem and nurtures their leadership skills. Each year we target our own community improvement project in the public housing communities. The projects are focused on improving the quality of life for the children. Mentorship, education, love without limits. At City of Dreams, we are building community leaders for tomorrow. We are looking for one to one and group event mentors to participate in our program.
History:
City of Dreams was launched in 2003 with the vision to help bridge the poverty gap in America. We've partnered with Gap, Inc., SBC Communications, Home Depot, Northstar Ski Resort, Mayor Gavin Newsom's office, and others to produce life enriching experiences designed to build the life skills and expand the perspectives of at risk youth. Throughout these events we've touched the lives of over 2,500 children living San Francisco's public housing communities.
