what people are saying. I cannot tell you how much help The Volunteer Center has been to us. We couldn't do it without you! A heartfelt thanks!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 1, 2009

With the school year starting up again, we are also looking for volunteers to work on our in-schools projects with local public schools during the school day. For this program, 826 Valencia partners with many San Francisco public schools, such as Wallenberg Traditional High School, Mission High School, and César Chávez Elementary School. We at 826 have even established our own Writers' rooms at Everett Middle School and, more recently, James Lick Middle School as well! Some of our previous in-schools projects have included weekly tutoring sessions at Everett Middle School with 6th to 8th graders on their school newspaper Straight-Up News, the magazine project at Mission High School, and worm journeys at Guadalupe Elementary School. In addition, Everett offers a more casual usage of both English and Spanish in the classroom and James Lick features a well-established bilingual immersion program. Both schools therefore provide volunteers with an opportune time to practice their Spanish skills and learn different ESL strategies from the teachers. We are accepting volunteer applications now to arrange for volunteer interviews.

Bilingual Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply. In order to apply, please complete a volunteer application at www.826valencia.org.
