Growing up, did you have a positive adult role model that made an impact in your life or do you wish that you did??? Do you want to be one for a young person today?
Volunteer Mentors are needed by Project PLAY (Peer Leadership Alternatives for Youth); a pregnancy prevention program at the Daly City Youth Health Center. We are looking for people willing to dedicate 2-3 hours/week to spend with a young person as a positive role model, a source of consistency, and a friend. There are many benefits to mentoring a young person with our program. Mentors receive 20 hours of initial training as well as on going support from Project PLAY’s staff through out the year. Who Are the Mentors?
You are 25 years or older and have experience and/or a desire to work with young people. You believe in young people and their ability to be successful. You feel you have life experience that you could share with a young person. You are looking to better yourself by giving your time and energy to a young person. You do not have to be from Daly City, only able to get there.
Who are the Youth?
The youth are ages 15-18 from the Jefferson Union High School District and feeder middle schools. They are all teens who can benefit greatly from a mentor. They are youth who want a mentor in their life. The cultural breakdown of youth is: 35% Filipino, 35% Latino, 10% African American, 10% Mixed Race, and 10% Caucasian.
