 AGENCY DESCRIPTION: Family Violence Law Center (FVLC) seeks to end family violence in Alameda County by providing legal, counseling, and support for survivors of domestic violence, conducting prevention education to transform individual and community perceptions about relationship abuse, and advocating for change within the legal, health, education, and criminal justice systems. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Development Manager, and in collaboration with the Development Assistant, the Development Intern will assist in coordinating a large fundraising dinner, to be held in October 2008. This event will celebrate FVLC’s 30th anniversary, and will help raise money for our life-saving programs. The intern will help solicit silent auction items, sell program ads to local businesses, assist with the preparation of mailings, and complete other event-based tasks. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify local businesses to solicit silent auction items from, and garner donations through phone calls, letters, and in-person door-to-door requests.
- Identify local businesses to sell program booklet ads to, and conduct ad sales through telephone and in-person requests.
- Assist with the preparation of event mailings and publicity, including invitations, postcards, flyers, etc.
- Assist in securing table centerpieces and guest favors.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND BACKGROUND: - Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to attend to details.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent researching skills, and familiarity with the internet.
- Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in women’s and domestic violence issues preferred.
- Access or other database knowledge a plus.
- Sales experience a plus.
- Ability to stay through October 2008 highly desired.
