what people are saying. I cannot tell you how much help The Volunteer Center has been to us. We couldn't do it without you! A heartfelt thanks!

Become a school volunteer! Invest one hour a week and make a true difference in the life of a young person.

Here are some of the opportunities we have currently:

  • Work with English Language Learners in Ms. Hale's 3rd grade class at an elementary school in Hayes Valley. Practice reading skills one-on-one with students, small groups playing phonics games and high frequency word practices.

  • Tutor Algebra at a high school in the Mission District. Work one-on-one with students who are highly motivated, but need assistance and encouragement in algebra.

  • One-on-one tutoring in Mr. Frost's 2nd grade math class at an elementary school in the Bayview district. The volunteer would help students learn how to do hands on math activities.

  • Kindergarten art at an elementary school in Visitacion Valley. The teacher said, "Many and most kindergarten children need one-on-one checking in and help during curriculum-related art activities. If I had someone to talk to the students and help them over the humps and catches of their projects, they would have and feel greater success."

5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
It was a great opportunity for me to interact with other people and to learn more about myself.
I have learned that life is full of wonderful things. You can't just wait for them to come but you have to look for them. My life is no longer self-centered; I contributed to the community.
