Volunteer Opportunity Details:
If you could not read, how would you earn a living? Pay your bills? Find your way around? Manage your health care? Help your children in school? Did you know that an estimated one in three English-speaking adults can't read or write well enough to fill out a job application or read a story to their young child? What would your life be like if you couldn't read? Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, speak English, communicate clearly, devote at least two hours a week for a minimum of nine months. Volunteers will receive 18 hours of free training and ongoing support. We are looking for volunteer tutors who have patience and who are willing to view teaching as a two-way experience, understanding that we are all learners. We provide training so that volunteers can help an adult reach his or her personal literacy goals. ![]() This opportunity is sponsored by: Second Start Adult Literacy Program
