Help immigrants realize the American Dream!

Career Resources Development Center (CRDC) is a 501 c 3 nonprofit location in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco. Our goal is to equip disadvantaged individuals with skills to enter the American workforce, succeed in a competitive job market and become economically self-sufficient. CRDC achieves its mission by providing vocational training, basic education, support services, job placement and retention services, workplace literacy,career counseling, and case management services.

We are currently looking for volunteers to work directly with our clients/students on any or all of the following tasks:

-ESL Tutoring - Practice speaking English in general daily conversations AND areas of workplace literacy, vocational ESL and other job related English terms. (Weekdays 12:15pm-1pm)

-Career Counseling - Review applications and resumes, perform mock job interviews and counsel on interview "best practices," such as having direct eye contact, smiling, speaking clearly, etc. (Can be incorporated with tutoring.)

-Mock Interviewer: Review resumes, conduct mock interviews from employer's point of view, provide feedback

-Mentor - do all of the above!

We currently provide a Hospitality Service Training Program geared toward employment in Hotels, Restaurants, Retail, and Manufacturing. The Program consists of 20-30 students in the morning class (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) This program is 15 week training course, 3 training cycles a year.

Volunteers must be enthusiastic and patient. Cross-cultural experience will be helpful. Our adult clients possess different levels of English proficiency, from low beginning to intermediate. Speaking and understanding Mandarin or Cantonese is preferred but not required.

The ideal volunteer should be available at least one or two hours a week during the hours of 9:30 to 2pm.
