Volunteer with Youth at Jewish Family and Children's Services In one hour a week, help one youth! Program Description: Spend your time volunteering with youth! In one hour a week, help one youth! Volunteers are placed in one-on-one matches with an 8-18 year old in San Francisco. Volunteers provide supportive friendship, encouragement, guidance and homework help. The volunteers and youth meet for one hour every week, for a minimum of an academic school year (nine months). The schedule is flexible and is based on the availability of both the youth and the volunteer. Pairs may meet onsite at Jewish Family and Children’s Services or meet offsite for activities in the community. Youth and volunteers decide together what activities to do each week—activities may include: homework, sports, art projects, local attractions. Program staff is available to help plan your activities!
Job duties include: -visit with a student once a week to provide companionship -listen attentively and enjoy matters of common interest -assist with school work as arranged -maintain monthly records if time spent with student -abide by the agency confidentiality policy
Skills:
- Interest and ability to work with youth as well as the issues and decisions they may face
- ability to support your student by listening to their concerns
- ability to work independently
